What to do about Easter?

Easter really is one of the big 'treat' holidays, isn't it? It has no religious significance to me, but I'm always up for an excuse to eat chocolate!

Last Easter I had just started WW, so I basically skipped the whole thing (and was so motivated then I could do so with very little angst).

But this year I'm going to work Easter into my plan. Because we all deserve some treats and continual self-deprivation is just wrong on so many levels.

So, how to approach this whole hot cross bun and Easter egg thing? Don't tell me it hasn't crossed your mind - especially as the bloody things have been in the supermarkets since Valentine's Day!

Well, I do have a bit of a head-start on the discipline required for this - courtesy of my Mum and Dad. *happy wave to Mum*

The rule in our house when we were growing up - hot cross buns are for Good Friday and the eggs are for Easter Sunday.

So, I will buy one pack of really nice buns from one of the flash bakeries in town. I'll have one for breakfast on Good Friday and Mark can scoff the rest. And I will buy one small but expensive egg in really nice chocolate for me to have on Easter Sunday and the boys can have their usual small mountain of various Easter eggs.

Of course I do have a duathlon on Easter Sunday, so I'll feel awfully virtuous while I'm stuffing chocolate in my gob!

Oh my god are Hot Cross Buns bad for you? They have been in the supermarkets in Australia since Jan 1st and I have one or two everyday with WW Jam. I Thought it was a low fat healthy snack. How many points each are the fruit hot cross buns? Maybe thats why I can't move the lard from my body.

What a great idea keeping hot x buns for Good Friday and eggs for Easter Sunday. Aren't you lucky only having them since Valentine's Day - we had them in the store before Chrismtas - and they were put on the shelves on Boxing Day !!!
Have a great week and good luck for the duathlon.

We don't tend to worry much about Jesus related holidays in our family but i have been tempted by the chocolate eggs a few times. Luckily most supermarkets only sell either the huge ones or else packs of small ones so its too much bother.

Hi Sue - I think your plan sounds eggselent....hehehehe. At my meeting last night the leader told us an acronym for EASTER - Eat All Sorts of Treats but Exercise Regularly....sounds like the duathlon will do the trick. Take care.lb

You are right - we can have treats in moderation and great planning Sue - sounds as if you will have quality not quantity!

Also thanks so much for your comments on my blog - you seem to be able to give me a much needed boost when needed! I am going to look into a heart monitor. I'm a bit of a gadget person myself:)

Greek Easter is such a huuuuge feast it's crazy. Last year I froze alot of stuff and had a little bit of something every other day so I didn't feel like I was missing out completely. I like your idea of a Friday Bun and a Sunday Egg. I think plenty of exercise will get me through. Good for you doing a Dualathon.

Great Easter battle plan - as I said to you at Christmas, with such meticulously laid plans, how can you not succeed???

LOL at Leisa B... eggsalent!!!!

Oh, and am I right in thinking Hot Cross Buns are 2.5 points, plus butter???

Love your plan of attack. I grew up in a similar situation with the buns for Friday and the eggs on Sunday so I might "steal" your plan and try that with me too but with the way things are going for me I won't make any promises! LOL
But am looking forward to seeing you on the Sunday - I will be there to cheer you over the finish line.

I really like your idea of eating hot cross buns on Good Friday and chocolate on Easter Sunday. I think it would be a great way to encourage healthy eating in kids too, a little in moderation hey?! I gave up chocolate during April last year and it wasn't that hard either. This year though I'll have some quality chocolate in moderation :o)

Excellent to make a plan. I'm like someone else above who wrote that she doesn't pay much attention to the Jesus holidays. Or any religious holidays, even the capitalist ones :). Though there is family to contend with, and The Mister's family. Makes me realize I should actually have a plan and strategy to get through Thanksgiving and Christmas next year.

I do like those Cadbury creme eggs though.

Good luck on your duathalon!

Mark was bemoaning the fact the other night at dinner that he hasnt received an easter egg since he was a child so Jess and I are off to DJs to buy the nicest chocolate easter egg (belgian) we can find. The children (really adults) have opted for no eggs this year so that only leaves the hot cross buns and I am with you, will probably go to a nice bakery and buy one packet. No butter though - goal is so close I can almost taste it.
Good luck with you duathalon - you rock!

Sounds like a very good plan Sue, thanks for the ideas and inspiration. I too had been wondering what to do about Easter, seeing that it was such an orgy of overeating for me last year!!

Speaking of which, easter eggs and buns have been in the supermarkets here since early January!! They never give us a break do they?!!

And well done on reaching the 50kg lost milestone!!! Brilliant. xx

I think as a child I was scarred for life by eating copious amounts of really really bad Easter chocolate, so for me it has to be the top quality or nothing. This year I am voting for nothing but will indulge in some great buns. Preferrably not my own LOL.

Have a great weekend :D

great way of looking at easter. setting certain days for the treats. last year i wasnt on ww and stuffed my face full of eggs all weekend. this year i have banned them from the house as we are going to the parents inlaws but im sure there will be some chocolate, just got to go easy on it and build it in.
good luck for the duatholon

I would much rather have quality than quantity in everything in life, it doesn't always work out that way, but it's a good way to think/be. Good luck with the duathalon - you'll deserve some chocolate after working that hard!
Have a great week.

Sounds like a good plan.

I am sure you deserve a couple of treats before or after the duathalon anyway. Good luck with it.

Thanks Sue - your plan sounds like how I will get through Easter which as an ex chocoholic will be hard. Well done on your progress so far, it is very inspirational. Now to choose my easter egg....

Sounds like a good plan. I skipped Easter last year too but this year, I'm hiding the eggs for the kids and enjoying their stash with them after!

Yeah yeah - moderation is the key (says she!). I agree with you in theory, but I just know I won't be able to help myself. I will think of you and all your virtue doing the duathlon. You rock. I would be stuffing my face if I were doing that!

What a really great plan Sue! I hope you don't mind if I borrow it - I was only thinking this morning what I was going to do about this coming weekend! I wasn't all that concerned with the HXBuns (WW 2pt) but the egg thing had me a little baffled. Have a great week Sue and all the best for Sunday's duathlon :)

Thanks for the wave babe. What was that you said about your Mum and Dad? We've weakened in our old age and our Sat night treat is now a caramel egg - or two!! Size 14??? Wow!!

Thanks for the idea about Easter, was starting to freak out a bit on how I would make it through without chocolate dipping my children. Hope you have a great Easter and I look forward to following more of your journey. :O)
