How old is too old?

At what age is your son too old for you to take him into the women's changing room at the pools (where my gym is)?

A couple of times a week, about the time I'm dressed and ready to leave the gym for work, a woman comes in with her young son. I'm struggling to place his age, but it's probably somewhere around six. Surely he could wait on the seat outside in the foyer while she gets changed? Because this kid is ALL EYES when he's in that changing room.

Either she's risking turning him into a perve, or she's going to scar him for life!

I'm all for people being open about their bodies, but the other people in that room haven't been given a choice in the matter.

And, yes, I have mentioned it to the pool staff, who have said they'll keep an eye out and have a word.

Later edit - of COURSE they have family change rooms. Right, now I'm quite happy to say something to her myself.

7 February summary
Breakfast: bran, yoghurt and blueberries
Lunch: beef and roast vege salad
Dinner: BBQ pork with brown rice and red cabbage salad
Others: three trim flat whites, pear, apricot, capsicum, a glass of red
Exercise: C25K week three and core body workout

Lol, I'm feeling a bit tired and groggy, and you know, I seriously, SERIOUSLY thought you were going to ask if Jake is too old to come into the women's changing room. And then I thought, no, that's silly.. it must be a joke, maybe he asks to go in.

OMG, I need to go to bed. But thanks for the giggle!

Unless the little shit is blind, 6 is too old to be in there with other women changing! Silly mother, maybe she is worried about leaving him outside the changing room? I would not take Griffin (he's 5) into a ladies changing room that's for sure, he already perves at me, has a boob fettish the little shit.

If the kid is old enough to dress himself, he's too old.

A lot of the pools here now have family change rooms which is great cos what if dad's want to take their daughters to the pool and stuff like that.

Interesting and a tough one. I kinda think that woman is a little selfish, especially if there is a "family" change room. It sucks that you have to say something because I bet it'll be awkward. If only she showed a little consideration to the other women.

I feel he's way too old to be in there. As soon as you know they are watching it's time for the family change room.

Thanks for the tip of the green tea - sipping away at one now.

URGH! What's wrong with people??! That's a no brainer. Do what you like in your home, but have a bit of respec (sic) in public.

PS. The saying "all eyes" is so apt, that is exactly how kids look.

that is pretty gross! i could maybe understand if they didn't have family changing rooms (although i still wouldn't like it!), esp with what happened at the australian open (a kid went to the bathroom on his own and got molested), and what happened to that poor girl at the mall. i change in one of the cubicles at the gym!!! i'm shy. even if i looked like a supermodel, i'd still change in a cubicle.

Hell.... if it WAS Jake in the change room - I'd be going to YOUR pool!!!! Hehehehehe... Or maybe not - Don't wanna scare that hot young son of yours!!

I don't know I am in two minds hun. I have 5 and 7 year old boys but I wouldn't want to have my boys go in the boys area without a adult that I trust because there are sick people out there. I do agree that having the boy there watching isn't a good idea.

In the changing rooms here in Hamilton we have little rooms that will fit a mum and a child so that they get dressed in a cubicle sort of thing and that is where I go with my boys (for now) only because there was a young boy that went to a public toilet here in Hamilton and was assulted while the mother was outside waiting for him....

I do think that the little boy shouldn't be allowed to sit and stare though aye and I can so so so understand your concern and if there is a family changing room then why isn't she using it.???

And yep I was thinking you were going to talk about your boy he he he he he when you first started.

I am glad I have read the other comments and have the comfort of knowing that I am not the only one that thought you were talking about YOUR son. I was definitely thinking you'd lost the plot and that Jake was having a hell of a time perving at all the other ladies in the changing room. Gave me a good laugh though, esp when I needed it.

The thing about the kid is he could look about 6 but might be 3. I have met some flipping huge little kids lately and I wouldn't be suprised if the hormones in chicken nuggets have made them all grow massive (just kidding LOL LOL!)
